Blessing Over Candles
Reading:
As these Shabbat candles give light to all who behold them,
So may we, by our lives, give light to all who behold us.
As their brightness reminds us of generations of Israel who have kindled light,
So may we, in our own day, be among those who kindle light.

Blessing Over Wine (Kiddush)
Reading:
Shabbat enters with words of wonder poured upon rich wine,
to fulfill the verse, “Remember the Sabbath day to sanctify it.”
Kiddush is a ritual of words and drink, a magical bridge from the harried weekday to the day of rest. As I lift this cup of blessing, may I celebrate the promises to come and the promises to keep.
