We mustn’t appoint a leader for a community without consulting it.- B.T. Berachot 55a
Our democratic principle, “one person, one vote” expresses our ideal that each of us has a voice in selecting our leaders in government. But gerrymandering - drawing voting district lines to favor one political party or the other, or even individual office holders - suppresses many voices.
Whether they lean conservative, liberal, or middle-of-the-road, most agree that gerrymandering is wrong, and that Pennsylvania’s legislators should not choose their voters by drawing their own districts.
Fair Districts PA speaker Terry Schettini will provide an update on efforts to reform PA’s redistricting process, roadblocks to those efforts, and ways in which individuals and organizations can advocate for change.
Fair Districts PA is a non-partisan coalition of citizens and organizations seeking to reform PA redistricting rules by ensuring that the process is impartial, transparent, and accountable.
