Adult Hebrew, Basic Hebrew for Hebrew Learners

KI will again be offering an Adult Basic Hebrew Class beginning in the fall.

The basic class is an introduction to Hebrew for those with no or little Hebrew study, and a good review for students who would welcome a refresher.  Many Congregation members and others have benefitted from the class, which has been taught for several years.  It was also used to prepare students for last year’s Adult Bar-Bat Mitzvah class.   The class will be instructed by Alan Salinger. 

The class’ purpose is to help students read and understand Reform services. The text we will be using  Aleph Isn’t Tough, goes through the entire Hebrew aleph-bet, teaches vocabulary, pronunciation, and word formats in a very understandable and thoughtful way. The text has been successfully used for several years, and is written specifically for adults and published by the Union of Reform Judaism’s UAHC Press.  

The classes provide students opportunities to learn, apply their new skills, and a comfortable learning space where students share Jewish experiences and get to know one another. Past classes have provided active class participation, Jewish learning opportunities, and a sense of community.  Additionally, the class briefly discusses the weekly Torah portion.

There will be 10-12 classes and will be on Zoom.  Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a Sabbath service.

The class fee is $160 and includes the textbook’s cost.  The classes will be weekly with the time determined by students’ regular availability.   Please register by September 4th.
